2018 Hartford Court Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay

96 Points -

"The 2018 Chardonnay Three Jacks Vineyard was 100% barrel fermented in French oak barrels, 15% new, and aged for 13months. It comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant scents of baked apples, poached pears, and spice cake with hints of powdered ginger, honeydew melon, and brioche. Medium-bodied delicately played and tightly wound in the mouth, it has great tension and loads of mineral nuances coming through on the finish. Stunning Chardonnay! Tasting Notes

The Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits aromas of lemon curd, orange marmalade, and brioche, with juicy flavors of pear, candied citrus peel, chamomile, and a rich, mineral-driven texture. The wine is full-bodied, weighty, and rich yet remarkably agile on its feet because of firm underlying acidity.

Vineyard & Vintage Character

Three Jacks Vineyard is a small vineyard in the heart of the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA farmed by the Dutton family. Hartford Family WInery has a long history with this vineyard; we bottled it as a designated vineyard wine from 1999 through 2004, and are delighted to once again be working with this fruit, starting with the 2012 vintage.

The vineyard is located on Graton Road next to the Dutton Shop, and is known to most as "Triple JS" – the name derived from the partnership of the owners – Joe, Juan, Jose and Steve. It was planted in 1995 to 4 clonal selections: old Wente, Rued, Dijon 95 and Clone 15. The name Three Jacks was coined in a barrel tasting with the 1999 vintage and has stuck ever since.
