2016 Hartford Court Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay

97 Points -

"The 2016 Chardonnay Three Jacks Vineyard comes from the cooler Green Valley region of the Russian River Valley and was fermented and aged 16 months in 30% new French oak. It has a deeper, darker, slightly more earthy and mineral-laced style in its stone fruits, brioche, honeysuckle, and hazelnut aromas and flavors. It's deep, rich, and powerful, with beautiful depth of fruit and a thrilling finish. It's a gem in this lineup. There are a scant 327 cases made." - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, June 2019

Tasting Notes

The Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits aromas of lemon curd, orange marmalade and brioche, with juicy flavors of pear, candied citrus peel, chamomile and a rich, mineral driven texture. The wine is full-bodied, weighty and rich yet remarkably agile on its feet because of firm underlying acidity.

Vineyard & Vintage Character

Three Jacks Vineyard is a small vineyard in the heart of the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA farmed by the Dutton family. Hartford Family WInery has a long history with this vineyard; we bottled it as a designated vineyard wine from 1999 through 2004, and are delighted to once again be working with this fruit, starting with the 2012 vintage.

The vineyard is located on Graton Road next to the Dutton Shop, and is known to most as "Triple JS" – the name derived from the partnership of the owners – Joe, Juan, Jose and Steve. It was planted in 1995 to 4 clonal selections: old Wente, Rued, Dijon 95 and Clone 15. The name Three Jacks was coined in a barrel tasting with the 1999 vintage and has stuck ever since.
