The 2023 Winberrie Knolls shows classic raspberry Zinfandel fruit expression and the vintage is especially intense in red cherry, red plum and an elegance of fruit expression unique to the Russian River Valley. The flavors carry intense red cherry, blueberry and delicate spice components that lead into a supple finish with silky tannins and beautiful finesse.

"
Bombastic aromas of black plum jam, boysenberry, and dark chocolate highlight the nose of this wine. The palate balances rich tannin and zesty acidity with flavors of baked cherry, anise, cinnamon, and purple flowers all along the finish."

Vineyard & Vintage Character

Winberrie Knolls is crafted from three contiguous vineyard sites that belong to Don and Jenny Hartford’s neighbors. The vineyards are in the heart of the Russian River Valley and were planted in 1906. These old vine plantings are another testament to the long history of amazing Russian River Zinfandels. These vines, trained in the traditional wagon wheel style, are planted on Huichica loam soils. The moderately sloped sites drain well and produce wines with juicy fruit characters and a broad, fruit-driven and silky mouthfeel.
Hand harvested at night. Clusters and individual berries are hand sorted before fermentation in small open top fermentors. Native primary and ML. 14-21 day fermentation with daily punchdowns. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
