2015 Hartford Court Far Coast Vineyard Chardonnay
"Coming from a coastal site just four miles off the Pacific, the 2015 Chardonnay Far Coast Vineyard was barrel fermented and aged 16 months in 43% new French oak. Buttered citrus, lemon, honeysuckle, white flowers, and building, salty minerality all emerge from this awesomely concentrated, deep, layered, and structured Chardonnay. This is a powerhouse. Full-bodied, opulent, concentrated, yet with bright acidity and perfect balance, it's an incredible effort and one of the finest Chardonnays out there." - Jeb Dunnuck, June 2018
This vintage of the Far Coast Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits aromas of orange zest, yellow apple, dried fruits and spice. The flavors lead with tangerine, mandarin orange and quince, followed by a long textural finish of minerals and gravel.
Vineyard & Vintage Character
Our Far Coast Vineyard is a cool site surrounded by redwood forests and located almost two hours north of the Russian River on a Sonoma Coast mountain ridge. It is an area that some call the ‘True Sonoma Coast.’ Others would simply describe the distant vineyard site as ‘the middle of nowhere.’ Far Coast Vineyard sits just south of the town of Annapolis at 800-1000 feet above sea level. The soils at this ridge-top site are well-drained Goldridge sandy loam, which helps to intensify the sense of minerality and focus in the wines produced from this vineyard. The 2015 vintage was a low yielding but high quality year on the Sonoma Coast which produced very complex and expressive wines. This wine was produced from a block planted to Clones 15 and 809.
