2013 Hartford Court Hailey's Block Vineyard Pinot Noir
92 Points -
"The 2013 Pinot Noir Hailey’s Block, which comes from a cool hillside vineyard in Green Valley, was aged in 28% new French oak. This is a more structured, tighter-coiled and earthy style of Pinot Noir meant for aging. It is elegant. Pomegranate, plum and black cherry notes jump from the glass along with underbrush and spice box. It is medium-bodied and pure, with the grip of tannins present in the finish. This should be given another year or so of bottle age and drunk over the following decade."
—Robert Parker’s, The Wine Advocate, October 2015
Red and black berries, wild strawberry, Indian spice and floral aromas accent the wine and are followed by bright red fruits and candied cherry notes that carry through on the palate. Full bodied, silky tannins complete the savory finish.
Vineyard & Vintage Character
Hailey’s Block is located within the renowned Arrendell Vineyard and is named after Don and Jennifer Hartford’s daughter, Hailey. The block was planted in 1996 to Dijon selections 114 and 777 of Pinot Noir when Hailey was just six years old. Over the years, we have watched both Hailey and her namesake Pinot Noir mature into personalities of great strength, beauty and charm.
Hailey’s Block sits in arguably the coldest spot in the Green Valley sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley AVA. The cold meso-climate that results from cool air settling in this low lying vineyard preserves natural acidity in the grapes and helps preserve the pure expression of the unique terroir in this beautiful release.
