2009 Hartford Highwire Vineyard Zinfandel

2009 Hartford Highwire Vineyard Zinfandel

95 Points - "The 2009 Zinfandel Highwire Vineyard ... exhibits a beautiful floral berry note, a Pinot Noir-like delicacy and sensibility, medium to full-bodied flavors and stunning purity, fleshiness and texture. Like its siblings, it is complex, supple textured, full-bodied, and a tour de force in Zinfandel wine production. It should drink nicely for 5-7 years." - Robert Parker, Jr., Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2011

About This Wine:

Tasting Notes

Consistently distinctive cracked white pepper nuances differentiate the Highwire single-vineyard Zinfandel from our other Zinfandel bottlings. Concentrated wild blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavors complement white pepper, nutmeg and allspice notes in this sought after single vineyard Zinfandel.

94 Points- "Inky purple. Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, cherry, Asian spices and potpourri, with a note of cracked pepper in the background. Juicy, precise and palate-staining, with impressively deep red fruit liqueur flavors giving way to darker fruits with air. Rich but surprisingly light on its feet, finishing with excellent clarity and persistence…" - Josh Reynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May 2011

94 Points- "A knockout combination of rich fruit and great structure. Floral aromas of huckleberry and toasty spice open to complex, dense flavors of boysenberry, licorice and loamy, fres earth. Tannins are ripe, but carry a grip. Needs time. Best from 2013 through 2018. 393 cases made." - T.F.,Wine Spectator, June 2011

Vineyard Character

The 99-year old Highwire Vineyard takes its name from the vineyard's trellising system: half of the parcel is head trained and half is trained on an unusually high wire strung between each vine. This unconventional trellising method was devised by vineyard owner Lloyd Chelli, to permit greater sun exposure and promote even ripening. Both sections of the vineyard are harvested separately and evaluated individually before selecting the best lots to ensure consistency in style of the incredibly unique Highwire Zinfandel. The Chelli family cares deeply for the old vines behind their home. Their dedicated approach to farming is reflected in the character of the wine produced from their vineyard.
