Dark berry, pomegranate and earthy aromas are complemented by concentrated black cherry and black raspberry flavors. Hints of orange peel on the nose add complexity to this wonderfully rich Pinot Noir. The palate is broad and focused with its supple mid-palate texture and superb tea and slate-like finish. MacLean's Block Pinot Noir is wine that could be enjoyed today or would be an excellent candidate for long term cellaring.
- "Bright ruby. Seductive aromas of red and dark berry preserves, cola and smoky herbs. Sweet, sappy black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors are framed by velvety tannins and gain weight, spiciness and a licorice pastille quality with air. The spice and cola notes carry through a long, alluringly sweet, youthfully gripping finish. I'll bet this will be better with a few more years of aging." - Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, June 2010
- "The 2008 Pinot Noir MacLean's Block comes from an east-facing slope not far from the town of Occidental. Another wine that is neither fined nor filtered, it displays a dark ruby hue as well as a luch texture and hints of pomegranate, raspberry, black cherry, toasty oak and earth. It should drink well for 3-4 years." - Robert Parker, Jr., Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2011

MacLean's Block Pinot Noir is named after Don and Jennifer Hartford's son MacLean. MacLean was about a year old when the vineyard was planted, and he is now 13. MacLean loves the vineyard site and its surrounding forest that is home to cougars, bobcats, wild turkeys and red tailed hawks.
MacLean's Block is an estate owned vineyard nestled near redwood groves on a beautiful north-eastern facing slope off of Harrison Grade and Bones Roads near the small Russian River Valley town of Occidental. Scenic views of the Russian River Valley, Mount St. Helena and Geyser Peak make MacLean's Block one of the most beautiful vineyard locations in all of Sonoma County. This gorgeous organically and bio-dynamically farmed vineyard block is planted to Dijon 667 and 777 selections of Pinot Noir and has its roots in the locally famous Goldridge fine sandy loam soil, known for its fluffy "moon dust" texture.
MacLean's Block Pinot Noir is known for its very powerful and complex signature of dark strawberry, mocha and earth aromas and dark cherry and mocha-spice flavors. 2008 is our second vintage of MacLean's Block Pinot Noir.
